When being “local” might be your ticket to being “global”

I recently read the following article via LinkedIn – on the opposite end of the scale, it should resonate to any overseas company looking at doing business not only in the UK – but to any country outside of its home territory.

‘Think global, act local’ is a phrase often associated with environmental and social movements. Surprisingly, for me it also resonates with export planning. In a single sentence it captures both the aspirations and the tactics needed for many export businesses to grow – whether you are a two-person, family-owned, internet business or a large-scale building company.

UK investment threatened–Industry says

I recently came across an article from bloomberg.com titled “Drug-Price Decision Threatens U.K. Investment, Industry Says”. I found this very interesting from an investment perspective – let me explain.

The article begins:

Pharmaceutical companies are protesting a U.K. government decision on drug pricing that their lobbying group says may prompt more of them to scale back operations in Britain.

UK Company Director’s duties in the UK

Directors in England are appointed to manage and run companies. With that comes a range of serious responsibilities: some specific to the abilities of the individual while others are a matter of legal obligation. This guide concerns itself with the latter.

The duties of UK company directors have previously evolved through statute and case law. The Companies Act 2006 embraces case law and demands that directors follow courses of action that should be in the best interests of the company and lead to the development and success of the company. Directors must not act in such a way that there is a conflict of interest between the good of the company and their own self-interests or wishes.
