Economic Indicators:
UK
- Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased 0.1% in the fourth quarter of 2009, compared with a decrease of 0.2% in the third quarter.
- CPI annual inflation was 3.5% in January, up from 2.9% in December. The RPI annual inflation rate increased again in January. The increase of 1.3% in the RPI annual inflation rate to 3.7% in January from 2.4% in December follows a 2.1% increase in the annual rate between November and December.
- Year on year, overall production output in December 2009 was 3.6% lower than in December 2008.
LONDON
- In the most recent 28-day period, (From 15 November 2009 to 12 December 2009) London’s Underground and buses had 268.1 million passenger journeys; 180.4 million by bus and 87.6 million by underground.
- The moving average annual rate of growth in passenger journeys decreased to -0.5% from -0.3% in the previous period.
- The percentage of the resident working age population who are unemployed and claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance in London was 4.4% in December 2009. There were 226,100 unemployment claimants in London in December 2009 compared with a downwardly revised 227,700 in November 2009.
US
- Real gross domestic product (GDP) rose at an annual rate of 5.7% in the fourth quarter of 2009. This follows an increase of 2.2% in the third quarter.
- Personal income increased $44.5 billion, or 0.4%, and disposable personal income (DPI) increased $45.9 billion, or 0.4% in December 2009.
- The U.S. international trade deficit in goods and services in December 2009 increased to $40.2 billion from $36.4 billion in November 2009. December exports were $4.6 billion more than November exports of $138.1 billion. December imports were $8.4 billion more than November imports of $174.5 billion.
